Real Madrid NO on Robinho to Chelsea

ROBINHO
By dixon9 August 14 2008
Real Madrid President Ramón Calderon has told Robinho and his agent Wagner Ribeiro that the young Brazilian will not be sold to Chelsea as he forms a key part of manager Schuster’s plans. Spanish sports newspaper “AS” reported that a meeting took place yesterday at 18:00 and finished at 19:10 after some days of anxious waiting by player and agent to pin Calderon down.

“AS” have printed a series of quotes from Robinho and Calderon although it appears that they have been used to reflect the tone of the meeting.  Having said that, given previous knowledge of the situation and that neither party has made any denials we can be fairly assured that the content of the quotes is accurate….or details of the meeting was probably leaked by the agent anyay.

“I want to go to Chelsea,” Robinho told Calderon.

“It’s not just about the money and I would appreciate it if you made things easy for me.”

"Well, we will not sell you, Schuster needs you,” Calderon told Robinho.

“Look, Chelsea are offering me 6 million euros net per season and there have been times when I feel I have not been treated very well here and I believe I’m a player who deserves better.”

Calderon stood firm and insisted that he would not be sold and repeated that Robinho was a key player in Schuster’s plans.  Further, the Real Madrid President told the pair that if Chelsea really wanted Robinho they would have made a better offer than the 25 million euros on the table at the moment.

“One thing is what they offer you – another is what they offer us.”

.

ROBINHO WALK

This amount is exactly what Real Madrid paid Santos in 2004 for Robinho although interestingly, this only happened after the player threatened to rebel if he wasn’t sold.

Robinho is currently on 2.1 million euros a season until 2010 and despite Calderon painting himself into a corner with his player after the Ronaldo catastrophe, the club would only come up with a new offer of 3.5 million euros compared to Chelsea’s 6 million.

The resulting negative conclusion to yesterday’s meeting will now lead Ribeiro to set up a press conference today.  Robinho will probably explain that he considers himself to be an intolerable position at the club after Calderon was prepared to use him as a make-weight in the Ronaldo deal and that the best solution is that club and player part company.

So, it looks like the Robinho to Chelsea saga will continue, Chelsea will make a final offer which IF refused won’t leave much time to implement a “Plan B” – if there is one.

I would class robinho as a wing forward, not an out and out striker. I believe we have enough strength in that department. malouda, SWP, j.cole, kalou when needed be, sinclair. Anelka can also put a decent shift in there.

If we had sold Malouda and SWP then i might of had a different opinion.

Maybe next year when el winker goes to madrid.

I agree - a wing forward - just like Ronaldo.

I still think we´ll get him this season though.
