Sahar and Smith Out on Loan

Ben Sahar
By Since66 July 1 2008
Ben Sahar has signed a six-month loan deal to Premiership and FA Cup Winners Portsmouth. Ben who spent the best part of last season out on loan firstly at QPR (before being struck down with appendicitis) and then Sheff Wed where he helped The Owls escape relegation.

Ben became Chelsea's youngest full international at 17 for Israel's national side and played parts in Israel's Euro qualifying games against England as well as scoring for Israel in the same competition.

Ben's Chelsea first team appearances have been rather limited. Four substitute appearances during season 2006/07.

Reserve team captain Jimmy Smith has gone out on loan to Sheff Wed for the same period of time - six months. Jimmy spent most of last season at Norwich City along with Ryan Bertrand but Jimmy's time at Carrow Road was hampered by injury.

Jimmy Smith

There are rumours abound that Neil Warnock and Crystal Palace are looking to take Scott Sinclair back on loan for next season, not just for a month or two but for the whole season.

Scott Sinclair

Scott found himself out and about last season at Charlton where he had a poor time and Crystal Palace where he seemed to enjoy his football again scoring a couple of goals in the process.

It will be interesting to see how 'Big Phil' reacts to Mr Abramovich desire of seeing more youth coming through the ranks as against spending millions and millions on big name signings, but then again Youth won't win Champions Leagues in the new manager's first year.

No, too much youth wont win the CL BUT I´ve a feeling Scolari will give a few youngsters more opportunity then many believe´.

Good point about the youth project designed to save us millions in the medium/long term - it is pretty much key to us starting to become more efficient as a business and was planned almost from the moment Roman took the club over.

Í´m looking forward to seeing some of the first "Arnesen fruits" coming through.

im a bit dissappointed that sahar hansnt developed faster after the potential he showed in the reserves despite being just 18.

The problem i felt with him is that he made his chelsea and israil debut in the same week and he maybe got a bit cockey. Im glad he now gets his chance in the PL and i hope he takes it.

Im not sure sinclair will go as he can be used as one of our home grown players in the champions league now which allows another foreigner in. thats why pizarro missed out last season, not that he would of made a difference.

Good point on Sinclair and the CL list - that hadn´t occurred to me.

If Scotty impresses he could find himself given a chance in the odd big game.
