The Academy had a fairly successful season which culminated in reaching the FA Youth Cup final and although the team were beaten by a very good Man City side quite a few names are starting to earn a serious reputation as 'stars' of the future.
Gael Kakuta is one and I shall be looking forward to continue following the progress of both Academy and Reserve teams when the 2008/09 season starts, I am hoping to get to a few games as well.
The new first-year scholars are as follows:
Jeffrey Bruma: Centre-back, made over 30 appearances for the Academy and Reserves last season.
Vincenza Camilleri: Italian junior International and plays at Centre-back.
Conor Clifford: Midfield player who is also an Irish U17 international.
Aliu Djalo: Another junior who has represented his country at International level. Hails from Portugal.
Aldi Haxia: Goalkeeper. Made a couple of appearances late last season.
Tom Hayden: Right-back and played for the Academy last season.
Frank Nouble: South Londoner by birth and is an attacker by nature. Scored six goals for the Academy last season and was heavily involved in the Youth Cup run.
Jacopo Sala: Another youngster from Italy who has represented his country at U17 level. Was involved in three Academy games last season
Sam Walker: Goalkeeper signed from Millwall. At 6ft 5ins, he is an excellent shot stopper and played four times last season.
