| Having wished all day the game would be on do you ever wish it had been off! With snow falling in the first half we even dreamed of it being abandoned!
I think it's fair to say we didn't really come out for the first half. With a new starting line up and a change to 3-5-2 we definitely proved, as we have earlier in the season, that we do not like change. Wayne Thomas starting was always going to be interesting, and on 16 minutes when he was adjudged to have fouled Dean Ashton, it took a quickly taken indirect free kick to put Simon Charlton in and 1-0 up for Norwich. You have to say that several times Thomas appeared to be slow and off his game, not his fault, so why play him this soon? Norwich were all over us at times and on 39 minutes, with acres of space, Huckerby was never going to miss! 2-0 and thoughts of more if we didn't buck up. One thing Norwich were doing well was fouling! After a dreadful challenge on Spicer he was taken off for Elliott on the stroke of half time.
The Second Half saw Branchy come on for Thomas, which was no surprise, and we reverted to 4-4-2. We immediately made an impact and it was clear we were not out of it yet. We had to keep on our guard with norwich quick in the counter account, but with stats showing 83% possession our way at one point, we had them scared. With a couple more yellows going Norwich's way, and some half chances, we got the goal that could change things. Harley took his chance and with a wicked deflection from Safri, scored on 73 minutes. Press Association, Sky, BBC and Clarets World all given as own goal so we'll agree. You felt like a change now, maybe Gareth on to shoot on target, would have been the next step? And we certainly had them worried! But after we cleared off the line so did they, and the game generally went on with us well on top but not getting or taking the chances. Our "fresh Legs" came on in injury time, far too late, and Norwich hung on for the three points.
Well you can't win them all, but it would be nice to win away from home again! Being critical i feel it was a bad formation to start and a bad choice of players after saturdays result. Four games in 8 days or not, we should have stuck with the same 11 and rested near the end if we were able. But in the second half, we tried and tried and could have got that second with a bit more luck. Maybe a referee who actually protects our front two would help! The best chance possible on Saturday to move on again with Sheffield Wednesday being beaten again tonight, so not too downhearted. UP THE CLARETS |
