The Clarets secured 1st division football in the worst possible way. A dreadful display at Rotherham was enough to keep us up as Walsall failed to win at Crystal Palace.
Stan name an unchanged side from the team that did so well against Derby the previous week although it was clear early on that we would not be getting the same level of performance.
Rotherham took the lead after a quarter of an hour when Martin Butler latched onto a long ball to beat Jensen. Once again questions were asked of Jensen with the Dane caught in no mans land. Worse was to come shortly before half time when on loan defender Robbie Stockdale scored after Jensen was caught out again.
A number of players had a go at the 'Beast' andmost fans knew it was game over byt his stage. Ternent took of both Lee Roche and Mo Camara at half time and the two of them were replaced with more attack minded players in Luke Chadwick and Dele Adebola.
We continued to create nothing and Roterham eventually got a third when Branchy handballed inside the box. Proctor, who also hit the bar, scored from the spot to spark a pitch invasion from the home fans who were delighted at securing their safety. The 3000 Burnley fans at the other end were relying on Crystal Palace to keep us up. That moment duly arrived int he last miniute when Andy Johnson scored to make sure Walsall couldn't win their game.
Stan Ternent called the performance of some players a 'disgrace' also had this to say "Unfortunately for me, I cannot do a lot about it with the players. I can’t fine them but I can bring them in morning and night. Some of those players were a disgrace to the Claret & Blue shirt today. Rest assure, if I can, I will most certainly do something about it.”
