Last Game Of The Season v Palace

MOM For UsYesterday
By Foreverclaret May 5 2008
Well there it is, another mediocre season? progress? gone backwards? or just a season where ambition has not been fulfilled. It was the Clarets last match of the season yesterday at Selhurst Park, nothing for us to play for other than pride, but the lure of the Premiership high on the agenda for The Eagles, and oh how it showed,

Our season just fizzled out with not so much as a whimper as we were well and truly stuffed 5-0 by a fine Palace side managed by a manager who in my opinion has never been accredited with the accolade of being dare I say it (very much tongue in cheek) A Special One. Colin has proved time and again that he can do a job at this level and can do it well.

He took the reins of a faltering Palace team back in October last year, having won just 2 games and languishing in 23rd position in the Championship, he turned them around to such an extent, that having reached the play offs and with their current run of form they are probably favourites to reach the promised land of the Premiership. I personally wish you well guys you deserve what ever success comes your way.
Our very own Owen Cole took over our reins just a few weeks after Colin had taken over at Selhurst Park, we were then in 13th place having won 5, and this is where the difference lies for me, after yesterdays game we were still in 13th position and looking a woeful team indeed, bereft of skill, passion, hunger, yes excuses can be made, injuries, suspensions, small squad, no money, missed opportunities in January, I could go on and on. The facts are that a good manager can make a difference, and with little or no money available, I don't recall any big transfers of note at Palace, just a few astute signings a sprinkle of magic dust and hey Presto!
I know that OC inherited SC's squad of under performers, but wouldn't that have been the same for Colin? When we appointed OC  as manager I did not expect miracles overnight, compared to Colin, Owen does not possess anywhere near yet, the wisdom and guile of such a very experienced coach, and will obviously take time to learn his craft, already some at Burnley are questioning his abilities. Next season will be a very important one for him, come tomorrow, his cards will be laid openly on the table and we will all see how deep a cut he makes, because on thing for sure is that the cut needs to be deep, very deep indeed, he now needs to bring in his team and get them playing with his passion, that would be a good start, the board I am sure will give him the resources he needs to do a good job, and hey maybe he could even call Colin for a bit of advice. We need to make progress and very quickly, otherwise I sincerely fear we will be left trailing behind, so much so that next season we could be doing a Leicester City.

Personally I don't like `Colin`, but, as a football manager, he certainly seems to get results.
Good luck to Palace.

Sir Alex Ferguson would have struggled at BFC this season!

If OC retains more than 6 of our present players, I fear the worst for next season. He NEEDS to get shut of the majority of our `squad` because they just aren't good enough to get us into the play-offs, let alone an automatic promotion.

If the club are serious about improving on the pitch (as well as off it) there has to be an influx of hungry players during the summer.....+ additions in January, if needed.

OC will be given this coming season to make his mark on BFC & I hope the board can back him up, but Whether funds are available, who knows.

Maybe TC but those players had got us up to 7th in January, they can't have been that bad. To be honest it's the manager that's worrying me at the moment more than the players.

The think is burnley wont "cull" the squad .

Out of the players out of contract ,i can see contracts offered to Jenson and Harley only ( but harley might leave)

Jimmy/Spicer/Unsworth will be released

Caldwell/Jordan/Kiraly will be put on the transfer list

Cole 1 year ( hopefully he will sign)

Randall a season long long ( hopefully he will return)

But IMO with the above , there will NOT be wholesale changes .
