Burnley Sign Arsenal Youngster
By TheLongside.co.uk January 31 2008
Burnley have completed their third loan signing of the transfer window with highly rated Arsenal youngster Mark Randall joining the Clarets for the remainder of the season. The eighteen year old midfielder will go straight into the Burnley squad to face West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Randall impressed last season in the Arsenal Reserve squad playing in all 18 games and also featuring in 17 Youth team matches.

He was finally rewarded for his efforts gaining a place on the bench for the final match of the 2006/07 season against Portsmouth.

Jimmy Mac Pic

After picking up an injury early in the season Randall was soon back and featured in both the victories over Blackburn Rovers in the Carling Cup and Burnley in the Youth Cup.

Manager Owen Coyle commented on the official website:

'I am delighted to bring such a good young talented player to the football club.  He is a tremendous addition for us and I am sure he will go on to have an outstanding career.  I hope we can play a big part in his development'.

Randall will wear the number 10 shirt.

PLAYS ON THE WING ALSO IN THE CENTER OF MIDFIELD, 6 FEET TALL 18 YEARS OLD, COULD BE A GOOD LITTLE SIGNING THIS UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON.

Just need a left sided midfielder now. Shame it seems the Carrusca deal will not go ahead.

Think he goes to the same hairdresser as Steve Jones.
Great signing though.

From arsenal.com

Quote:
Mark Randall
Highly-regarded midfielder Mark has already had a taste of first-team football after replacing Denilson in last season’s Carling Cup win over West Bromwich Albion.

Creative, composed and with remarkable vision, Mark was an integral part of both the Under-18s and Reserves last season. The talented youngster was the only player to start all 18 games for the second string and also scored four goals in 17 youth-team games.

His performances throughout the 2006/07 campaign earned him a place in the first-team squad for the final day trip to Portsmouth and also saw him sign professional terms with the Club. Although he did not make it off the bench at Fratton Park, Mark was handed a starting role in Arsenal’s first friendly of the 2007/08 season - a 2-0 win at Barnet.

The youngster will be hoping he has forced his way into Arsène Wenger’s Carling Cup thoughts after orchestrating proceedings in the first half at Underhill.

He's a good player!

I saw him come on as a sub when Arsenal beat Blackburn in the cup. He seemed very lively and skillfull, good signing!

This player looked good playing against the young Clarets in the FA youth cup tie at Accy, Saying that all the Arsenal players looked head and shoulders above the young Clarets. He must have made a big impression on Coyle that night.

'Randall has special feeling about him'
By Matt Fortune

Mark Randall’s involvement with the first-team in recent months has not just helped him but has also had a positive effect on those around him.

Speaking after Arsenal’s comprehensive defeat of Burnley in the FA Youth Cup Third Round, defender Paul Rodgers heaped praise on his 18-year-old team-mate.

“His Carling Cup experiences and his first-team involvement has helped him so much,” Rodgers told Arsenal.com “His confidence has gone up and up.

“You can tell when he is on the pitch that he has a special feeling about him."

Having suffered an early set-back against the Clarets, Randall orchestrated Arsenal’s victory with a sumptuous performance, capped by a stunning 20-yard strike.

“When you see him so confident and composed on the ball, the way he seems so relaxed, it’s good for all of us,” said Rodgers.

“At times when the game is a bit hectic, he will calm it down and that can certainly rub off on the rest of the players.”

Sounds interesting and should be a good player, friends who watch the youth stuff rate him very highly.

I wonder though if he's been a target for a while or it's a mass panic to get bodies in?

One pleasing aspect is, if we handle it well and he enjoys his time with us then it may set us up for future business with Arsenal - assuming he is as good as the reviews suggest of course.

Ive seen highlights and match reports on him and thus far he has not done anything wrong and has been on fine form

most of the young lads look up to him (like paul rodgers) and that is a huge thingfor an 18 year old

he is one of the new crop of youngsters produced by Arsenal and I bet you'll see alot of him next season if he is successful at burnley

He's 18 years old and Wenger rates him good enough to be on the fringes of the Arsenal first team squad.

That's all I need to know, he'll do for me.

Randall has been training with the Arsenal first team since he was 16 as Wenger rates him very highly. He is a talented lad but he is not a work horse type, he is attack minded and can seem lazy as he is calm and cool on the ball, he is not strongly built but will not hide from tackles but its his eye for a pass and for scoring that you will enjoy most.

Can he operate on the left wing do you think eduardo?

We are seriously lacking in that area.

Sounds like the same mould as Henry.
If it benefits the Clarets, it will benefit Arsenal as well I would think!
