Andy Cole will most certainly be remembered for his time at Newcastle United where he netted 55 times in 70 appearances and at Manchester United where he continued his great goal scoring form with 94 goals from 195 appearances.
Cole has also had spells at Arsenal, Fulham, Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, Manchester City, Portsmouth and Birmingham City before he joined Sunderland at the start of this season. Despite being the second highest goalscorer in the Premiership all time scoring charts with 187 goals he only managed to gain 15 caps for England.
Manager Owen Coyle was obviously pleased to finally get the striker to Turf Moor: "I have been working on signing him for a while now and I am thrilled to have him. He will be a tremendous addition for Burnley and gives us a big, big boost." Cole will wear the number 27 shirt. Also extending his loan stay at Burnley is defender Stanislav Varga who has agreed to remain with the Clarets until the end of the season. In other transfer news Celtic are believed to have bid for Burnley forward Kyle Lafferty. The bid beleived to be around £2.5 million plus forward Derek Riordan is thought to have fallen short of Burnley's valuation of Kyle and has therefore been refused. With just 2 days of the transfer window remaining open we will soon find out if there are to be further additions to the squad. |
