1959/60 Series - Wolverhampton v Burnley |
|
Referee: Mr. C. H. Rogers (Greenford) Crowd: 33,953 Teams Wolves
The Burnley followers were hopeful of at least 1 point, they were certainly not prepared for us to be on the wrong end of a 6-1 thrashing. Wolves were awesome on the night, and tore into us straight from the kick off, we managed to hold them at bay for the first 15 minutes, but then in the space of 5 minutes the score was 3-1 to Wolves. the scoring went like this, Murray 1-0, Broadbent 2-0, Pointer 2-1, Horne 3-1, and incredible period of scoring. Then in the 35th minute Broadbent scored his second to put the Wolves 4-1 up. This massacre continued in the second half, the Clarets had no answers to the onslaught, Mannion and Mason added two more, to make the final score 6-1, and believe you me it could have been a lot more. What a night, what a disappointment, how would this young Burnley side come back from this? Programme Review Team changes to those printed in the programme were Sidebottom in for Finlayson, Horne in for Deeley, and Cummings in for Angus.
There was also as expected a considerable write up on the Cup semi final victory and them reaching the final at Wembley. There was also a piece written by Ivan Sharpe about the attractive attacking play that Burnley were playing on a regular basis. Next game: |
