Nottingham 30-8 Bees
By Dave Lawrence December 31 2005
Whichever way you look at it, Pertemps Bees were well and truly beaten at Ireland Avenue.
Unhappy director of rugby Phil Maynard said: "Nottingham were very average but we are a poor side at the moment.

"If we play like that when we go down to Harlequins [on January 2] we will be looking at an 80-point scoreline."

The situation is getting desperate for the men from Sharmans Cross Road.

Bees have won only one league fixture in nine and were convincingly trashed by a Nottingham side who have a less-than-impressive return in National One this season.

After five minutes a Ryan Lamb clearance was snapped up by Notts full-back Ben Thompson who powered forward and laid off for Tim Molenaar to score.

Thereafter Bees never looked like getting anything out of the game and made only two advances towards their opponents' posts in the first half. Both of those resulted in penalties for Lamb, one effort sailing between the sticks.

Bees winger Tom Beim, who looked nervy throughout the first half, was at full-back and fly-half Lamb playing at scrum-half.

Nottingham fly-half Neil Stenhouse added a penalty and converted a further try while Adam Corcoran benefited from a scrum being forced over the line on 29 minutes.

Both sides, who had changed their shirts during the half-time break, spent most of the second half bogged down in the centre of the pitch.

Corcoran scored his second try on 49 minutes and Sten-house made up for a missed conversion with a penalty on 68 minutes.

A consolation try finally arrived for the away side but Ben Gerry's 80th-minute effort failed to raise a smile from the visiting fans as Lamb swiped the kick wide of the right post.
