WALKING WOUNDED

Injuries mounting
By wrecsam am byth April 8 2004
Wrexham manager Denis Smith's injury problems continue as we look ahead to two crucial games, Port Vale away and Hartlepool at home.

Pejic said to the Evening Leader: “You can certainly say it’s been a busy week! Obviously, we’ve still got a bit of time on our hands and we may well have to leave those who have a chance of playing at Vale until Saturday morning. The situation can change so quickly, but at the moment there are certain people who already have no chance of playing in either game over Easter.”

First choice goalkeeper Andy Dibble is out until the new season with a broken arm. His place at Vale Park again goes to Mike Ingham, who is an emergency loan signing from Sunderland.
Ingham, 23, has played in the last five games including the FAW Premier Cup, semi-final win over Cardiff City. Wrexham won that on a penalty shoot-out with Ingham saving the last spot-kick.

Wrexham now know who they will play in the FAW final after Rhyl shocked Swansea with a 2-0 win last night.

Wrexham manager Smith was at the game at Belle Vue – the venue for the final.
Smith said today: “It’s good for North Wales football and also from our point of view.
“After watching Rhyl last night it’s easy to see why they are having a good season. I thought they were certainly the better side.
“The final is at their place so it’s not going to be easy but it is going to be worth waiting for.”

But Smith’s main concern is getting a side out for Saturday.
Defender Shaun Pejic is also struggling to make either Easter game despite intensive treatment on a calf injury from his dad. Wrexham are also hamstrung by hamstrings.

Pejic said: “We’ve had more than our fair share of hamstring injuries this season. Hector Sam is struggling with his but hopefully Jim Whitley and Lee Jones are now ready to start training again.”
There are also good vibes coming off midfielder Mark Jones. Pejic confirmed Jones has damaged knee ligaments but he may be back before the end of the season.
“We thought he might be out for the rest of the campaign,” said Pejic. “But things, as I say, can change in 24-48 hours and, if anything, he’s a little better now than he was. But we’ve still got others who at this stage are doubtful.

“Brian Carey must be doubtful at the moment with a foot injury and Carlos Edwards is also struggling with a thigh injury. Steve Thomas has a calf knock and Steve Roberts is having treatment for an ankle injury.”
Wrexham also have two suspended for the Vale game. Skipper Darren Ferguson is out and he also misses Monday’s game. Craig Morgan is also banned on Saturday after being sent off at Plymouth.
