Striker Treated For Cancer
By Martin Williams
June 27 2004
35 year-old Welsh striker Iwan Roberts has revealed that he was treated for skin cancer in March. The former Norwich City player mist just one game following an operation.
Roberts is now available on a free transfer after being released by City following their promotion to the Premiership.

He has had surgery to remove a mole on his arm that was diagnosed as a malignant melanoma.

Roberts said: "The surgeon told me we got it at an early stage which was a good thing.

"But he said there was a 20% chance it may come back so I have got to go for check-ups for the next five years."

"The gaffer (Nigel Worthington) was brilliant and said I could have as much time off as I wanted," he added.

"But I just wanted to get on with training and I would only have sat around at home dwelling on things."

Since leaving Carrow Road Roberts has held talks with Gillingham and Swansea with Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday said to be amongst others interested in the player.
