Pre-Season - Week 9
By CovSid67 July 7 2008
Wahey! We found some teams to play pre-season! And so far, it's one game, one win - and that without our 35-goals-a-season star signing having even arrived at the club. Championship pretenders, beware! This season Coventry City really mean business .... I hope.

Coventry City have sold 9,098 season tickets so far this summer. While said amount might seem poor (Worse than a fair few clubs in League One for a start), after the dismal showing last season, the fact we have already sold more than last season shows supporters believe in what Chris Coleman and Ray Ranson are trying to do. The club are hoping a couple of decent signings will help beat the record of 9,497, set in the 2006-07 season, though getting rid of Stephen Hughes AND Kevin Kyle would probably have as positive an effect. Quite why anybody would buy their season ticket after the Early Bird Scheme has finished is beyond me though. If these people have got money to spare, I've plenty of stuff to sell (New list coming soon!).

One time Coventry City target Steven Wright (Available on a free transfer) has finally arrived at the club, with a view to filling the fairly vacant right-back slot (Presuming McNamee continues his injury woes, and ends up leaving the club). Portuguese midfielder Manuel Cotto is also currently on trial at the club (With the word 'defensive' so far nowhere to be seen). Chris Coleman is still said to be in the hunt for Clinton Morrison, despite reports that said player wants to stay in London (Swap for Kevin Kyle please!), and has been linked with another Cardiff player, this time Glenn Loovens.

Coventry City won a low-key friendly against Austrian side FC RFE Vocklabruck. Goals from Donovan Simmonds and Robbie Simpson, helped the side to a 2-1 victory. The team: Westwood, Wright, Fox, Turner, Dann, Mifsud, Bouzalin, Gunnarson, Tabb, McKenzie, Best; Sub: Ireland, Hall, Birchall, Cotto, Gray, Kyle, Simmonds. As somebody has pointed out elsewhere, Simpson managed to score despite not actually being in the squad! A couple more friendlies have been (Hastily) arranged in Switzerland, against Romanian second division outfit FC Brasov, in Martigny, on Wednesday July 16th; and against Stade Nyonais at the Colovray Sports Centre, on Friday July 18th.

Peter Reid is rumoured to be Thailand's No. 1 choice to coach their national team. And Judith Chalmers recently revealed she 'went commando' for every vacation she took on that holiday programme thing she used to do....
