If ever a result came along at the right time, it was the weekend drubbing of Colchester! We've been creating and missing chances for a while now (Twenty plus years!), and that rout, aided by some charitable Colchester defending to help bump the score up, has left our position at the wrong end of the table looking a lot healthier.

But the fat lady is still gargling, and ready to sing to one of seven clubs still deep in the mire - please don't let it be us!

For those of a nervous disposition, I guess no other fixtures matter this weekend: Coventry City have to win, and all other results are irrelevant.

Unfortunately, Wolves win over Cardiff gives them genuine hope of snatching a play-off place, so victory for them is essential too, and we might still have to rely on gaining a result away to Charlton. Had Wolves lost to Cardiff, they might just have started thinking about their holidays early, and taken their foot of the pedal slightly.

The perfect scenario, would be for Coventry City to stay up (Obviously!), and for Leicester to go down! If we can even manage a draw, and Premiership chasing WBA can beat Southampton at the Hawthorns, barring an avalanche of goals in the wrong nets for the final fixture of the season, we are safe to concentrate on watching the nearest thing we have to neighbours and their struggle. And let's hope it is a struggle!

Such has been the unpredictability of the Championship this season though, that I'll be saving the celebratory beers until we are mathematically safe (Though I might have a practice pint or two!).

It is worth noting that I've been doing my bit to help Coventry City out, by backing our relegation rivals to win each week! There is nothing more likely to scupper a sides chances of winning than me putting money on them (Sadly, this started after I had predicted Leicester would win away to WBA! The result might have been unwanted, but the pay-out would have been great!).

Once again it's been a terribly disappointing season, and, while I'm sure the players will do the usual lap of the pitch after the Wolves game, do they deserve our applause in return? I presume most supporters that are left in the stadium will show their gratitude, but the players performances, in the main, are not deserving of such a response. Yet again this season the performances have just not been good enough.

The Player Of The Season Award is hardly a contested event this season, though the undoubted winner, Jay Tabb, is still very deserving of said honour! If only others had given him more of a run for his money, we might not be going into the last two games still probably needing points to stay up. And, had Fox and Dann played a few more matches for the club, they would have been genuine contenders, as their coming into the side has coincided with a far better sequence of results. It's little wonder that there is already talk of interest from Premiership clubs!

While most of the players might not be good enough (Whether that's down to their attitude or their ability is still open to debate), the chairman and the manager certainly are. While some seem unhappy with Mr. Ranson, I for one think he is doing a quality job. He isn't making stupid promises, and seems very happy to stay out of the limelight. If he could only fill in the position of right-back too, where he played in his Manchester City days, he would be already getting on for legendary status at the club!

I also believe in Chris Coleman we have a quality manager in charge of the playing side of things, though he does sometimes seem to wear the look of somebody that thinks they might have made a mistake accepting the job as our manager! Now if we could only find a squad of players to compliment him and Mr. Ranson, we might just become a force to be reckoned with.

Survival this season is in our own hands, but for the first of our two bites at clinching it, our players need to be as up for the match as the opposition - and far to often in local derbies, we're not (I'm hoping that said fixture sees te Arena achieve it's best attendance so far, with Coventry City fans turning up in numbers to help us cross the line to safety). That's just one of the problems that needs resolving during the summer break....
