City started the game off but it was the visitors who had the first chance when Craig Westcarr shot wide from a Geohaghon throw. A deflected Oakes free kick brought a corner and that was headed over by Danny Hone. Harper claimed a cross from Kovacs are City were controlling the opening period. Neither side were really creating decent efforts and it took until the 20th minute for the first good chance.
It came via Dany N'Guessan when he burst into the box and he should have celebrated a goal, but Harper produced a fine saved to give the Imps a corner. N'Guessan chipped it onto the roof from the set piece before he again had a shot blocked, this time by Branston.
Dempster was booked for a foul on N'Guessan before Kovacs headed over from close range. Beardsley, Westcarr and Marna all had half-decent chances to take the lead before Oakes sent a low free kick at Harper. Neither side could get another decent chance in before half-time.
An unmarked Solkhon headed just wide from a corner before Potter almost shot wide following a set piece. However, it wasn't long before City gained a goal that based on chances created, they had deserved since the beginning of the match. Oakes hit a free kick into the box and N'Guessan headed it into the path of John-Lewis, he headed it goalwards and Harper was helpless as it sailed past him to give City a 1-0 lead.
N'Guessan shot wide before Burch easily claimed a Branston effort. Then N'Guessan was the man responsible for giving the visitors a way back into the game. Potter picked up the ball and N'Guessan could have easily cleared several times before the ball found it's way to Westcarr and the former Imp scored at the same end that he scored his only goal for City at, bringing the Poppies level.
Potter went off for Wrack just minutes before Christie came on for Marna. A hard right footed effort from Frecklington was City's last realistic attack on goal....there was one more for Kettering though. Seddon broke down the right in the first minute of added on time and sent a ball into the box, Iseyden Christie, a man who used to score against the Imps on a consistent basis, headed the ball into an empty net and it was 2-1.
Only now, after about 30 minutes of not playing well, did Jackson decide to make substitutions as Graham and Brown came on for LJL and Freck. Neither could make an impact in their usual cameo appearances and City were out of the cup......again.

Gotta agree with Nathan. I feel cheated and insulted that the man couldnt do something to liven the team up until 2 minutes into extra time, after all some of the subs were his signings werent they ?, and they were all his choice on the night. I cant help feel that he may be asking for , or trying to engineer the sack !!, despite all of his declarations of love for the club, city and supporters .
