If you have met me, you know that it's pretty hard to surprise me. I am 24 years old and thought I had seen it all when it came to football. I've seen relegation favourites make the playoffs, I've seen sides go up due to one good month, I've seen Hull City fans try and attack City's coaches with Mars Bars, but I've never quite seen anything quite like what has happened in the last few days.
I'm not going to get into an argument about whether these alledged racist comments were made or not. I was sat about 50odd metres away from the incident and didn't hear anything, but Peter Jackson doesn't strike me as someone who would have made something like that up. I met Peter near enough as soon as he became City manager and I have no reason to believe he, and especially Iffy Onuora would pretend to have heard and seen racism at Kettering Town on Saturday. This photo however does clearly show that Jackson, along with an FA offical looking up into the stand, indicating something did happen.
However, the one thing that I really don't get is the reaction of Kettering Town's chairman. 99.9% of chairman would willingly go along with any investigation into racism in football, especially (and without trying to sound racist myself) a chairman of an Asian decent. Then again, on some level his reaction doesn't surprise me, afterall, this guy thought that Gasgoigne would be a decent manager.
I feel a bit of trepedation about the replay now as this isn't just a football match anymore. Lincoln have had plenty of fierce rivalries with clubs of Kettering's side, most recently Boston United, but the difference being that both clubs respected the other, this doesn't feel like that.
I'm not going to rate the players this week because even though it wasn't the best performance in the world, this game will always been remembered for the aftermath. Next Tuesday could get very interesting.
