Rather fittingly, there was a minute silence for Remembrance Day before the kick off before a game featuring a club with the nickname of "The Poppies". It was the hosts who got of to the good start when Alfie Potter almost opened the scoring within seconds of the kick off. His shot went wide before Geohaghon failed to reach a free kick early as it drifted out for a goalkick.
City's first chance came from Dany N'Guessan's header, it went wide following on from Paul Green's cross. N'Guessan also felt he had got a corner a minute later as his shot appeared to take a deflection wide, the referee ruled it didn't though and a goalkick was given.
Danny Hone had to be alert to block a Christie effort before Seddon headed wide. Hone and Christie were then at the centre of a controversial moment when the latter appeared to elbow the City youngster, only for the referee to have a lengthy discussion with Hone.
Boucaud was booked for a late foul on Kerr, an incident which didn't go down well with the City captain. Frecklington hit the resulting free kick over whilst Kettering came inches away from opening the scoring a minute later as Arthur outpaced Green. His shot went under Burch and Arthur looked set to pounce, but Burch fortunately managed to re-claim the ball early on.
Kovacs was the next in the book but Eaden should have joined him. The former Imps was trying to best to injure his former team-mates, putting in more effort in two minutes for Kettering than he did in his season at Sincil Bank. John-Lewis headed straight into Harper's arms but neither side managed to open the scoring before the half time came about.
The second half didn't exactly start off quickly and the only incident was a Frecklington volley sailing wide of the mark. The midfielder then shot wide a minute later before Seddon just failed to connect with the ball following a quick free kick for the hosts.
Potter shot wide with 15 minutes to go before Marna replaced Arthur for Kettering, Wright also came on for Patulea at the same time. Paul Green was booked just seconds before what has since become an infamous incident. Peter Jackson and Iffy Onuora became irate about what has since been an alledged racist comment from a Kettering supporter. That incident has since been reported to the FA and has brought about some less-than-professional statements from the Kettering end.
However, enough about that for now and back to the match. The hosts took the lead with five minutes to go when Geohaghon, the only Kettering player to have impressed me, latched onto a ball into the box before fired home past Burch to send the small Kettering crowd wild. However, the celebrations were short as Green played a brilliant through ball and N'Guessan rounded Harper and made it 1-1.
Neither side managed another shot and the teams will now replay on November 18th.
