Imps again fail to make domination count
By Nathan Jackson

Lincoln City yet again dominated a match and failed to win as a very poor Morecambe side snatched a point at Sincil Bank. Lee Frecklington gave City a deserved opener but Morecambe pulled level just before half time with one of a very small amount of chances they had during the sgame. The Imps continued to dominate but never looked like scoring a second.

City kicked off the game and were automatically on the attack. The Imps pressed foward and it was Adrian Patulea who had the game's first chance. He picked the ball up on the edge of the box, Roach but about saving it low down. Danny Adams cleared a City corner. It was a promising start from the Imps and we were actually looking dangerous for a change.

The game stopped for a few minutes as Kovacs and Howe collided heads before Danny Hone cleared a Morecambe corner. N'Guessan won a corner after his shot deflected wide, LJL having a shot blocked before it was about to enter the net. City were the dominant force against a very poor Morecambe side. Frecklington and Patulea both had good efforts blocked on the line as City were very close to opening the lead.

The miss of the game followed by Kerr played a through ball to N'Guessan. The Frenchman controlled the ball and shot, Roche spilt the ball into the path of Patulea and the Romanian had a near open goal. The defenders rushed back and Adams, a former player under Jackson at Huddersfield, blocked the goalbound effort on the line and it didn't feel as though it was going to be City's day.

However, City did take the lead in the 20th minute when Frecklington burst through to find himself one-on-one in the area. He hit a rasping shot towards the net and saw it hit the "onion-bag" to give City a very deserved lead, the strike seeing Frecklington joining Patulea at the top of City's scoring charts.

Beevers just shot over within a minute of the goal before Sinclair had to go off for treatment. A rare foray forward saw Craig Stanley find himself in the clear for the visitors, he failed to get it beyond Burch and the Imps remained in front. Both sides made changes in the 28th minute, City replacing Sinclair with Brown and Parrish coming on for Adams for Morecambe.

Brown almost instantaneously won a free kick for City but it came to nothing. Morecambe then strangely started time-wasting, that despite being 1-0 down. This almost cost them as Dany N'Guessan broke through again, this time Roche just about getting to the ball at his feet.

No added on time was officially announced by the fourth offical and as the game past the 45 minute mark, John-Lewis' weak shot deflected into Roche's arms. Kovacs was penalised for a push on Twish about 40 yards out and Stanley stepped up to a free kick in a position that City usually concede from. He floated the free kick into the box, it evaded everyone and into the net, the second time in as many seasons that Morecambe have scored an undeserved equaliser at Sincil Bank. That was the final action of the first half.

The second half was far less action packed. City won a few quick corners but none really came to nothing. Patulea forced the half's first decent chance when he headed just wide but it was already looking like it was going to be a poor second half display from the Imps.

Howe shot just over the bar before Patulea was left with another open goal at the other end, this time having his effort cleared off of the line. The Romanian had another good chance within a minute as LJL forced him into making a miskick straight to the Romanian. Patulea looked to shoot first time but failed to get the ball away before being tackled by a Morecambe defender.

Curtis came on for O'Caroll for the visitors and City had a fair shout for a penalty just after the hour mark when Hone was pulled down in the area from a corner. Kovacs had a header cleared off of the line as the game entered the final ten minutes.

Shane Clarke dragged a shot wide before LJL missed an easy chance from mere yards. N'Guessan had a shot well saved by Roche but that was the final decent effort as it was certainly a case of two points lost for the Imps.
