I can't remember the last time I was so relieved when we scored a goal. It was yet another game where we have dominated but never looked like scoring. Barnet were the least attacking side I have ever seen come to Sincil Bank (and 0 shots on and off target says it all) and we should have realistically won that game by about three or four goals. Unfortunately this is a problem that won't be rectified if we continue to play with Ben Wright and Kevin Gall up front.
These two make a really ineffective strike partnership and it's little surprise that they've only scored one goal between them in the seven games they have started together. Ben Wright can't win a header to save his life, even Warwick Davies would be able to outjump him and Kevin Gall just simply doesn't look dangerous. I find it no coincedence that we finally scored after these two were substituted by hungrier players.
One of those was Adrian Patulea. What a debut and it appears that he certainly was worth the money from the early signs. He was desperate to impress and his reaction said it all, the first reaction of it's type since Derek Asamoah scored his first goal for the Imps (at the twelve millionth time of trying) and Patulea obviously wants to make the most of this chance that he has been given.
However, it was another foreigner that I am going to praise this week. This youngster often under performs to such an extent that he is the most frustrating player that the Imps have. Dany N'Guessan very rarely puts in a performance where I will praise him but that has finally come. Dany was easily the best player on Saturday, he has actually realised that you play as a team and has started passing the ball, but to such an extent where his balls were dangerous. However, whether he will put in a similar performance against Bury is very much anyone's guess.
Overall, I think that City can finally build on this and things are starting to look up. It may not be much but a 2 game unbeaten run is something that shouldn't be dismissed. It starts to build confidence and although we have had them against two very poor sides, you can only remaining unbeaten against those that are put in front of you.
THEIMPS.TK UNOFFICIAL PLAYER RATINGS FOR THE GAME AGAINST WYCOMBE WANDERERS | ||
PLAYER | RATING | COMMENTS |
1 - ROB BURCH | 6 | With Barnet having no shots either on or off target, it's hard to really give Burch anything more than a defaulted six. |
2 - PAUL GREEN | 6 | Much like Burch, he was very rarely troubled to be honest. Made a few decent forward runs and put in some good crosses but you can't really give anything more than the average six. |
4 - JANOS KOVACS | 6 | His karate kick method of clearing is quite amusing but he didn't really have a lot to do at all. |
5 - LEE BEEVERS | 6 | Seemed comfortable at left back, strange considering he's right footed. |
6 - FRANK SINCLAIR | 6 | Again, you can't really give him more than six because he had nothing to do. |
7 - STEFAN OAKES | 7 | Passing was excellent but whether he broke into a sweat was a different matter all together. |
8 - LEE FRECKLINGTON | 7 | Looked dangerous going forward but nothing that really inspired. |
9 - KEVIN GALL | 4 | Well, Kevin Gall finally managed a shot. It went nowhere near going in but it's an improvement. However, I stil don't think he is good enough and there is little to suggest he'll even score one goal in his six months here. |
11 - SCOTT KERR | 5 | Had a quiet game to be honest. Didn't do a lot wrong but didn't make any mistakes. |
12 - DANY N'GUESSAN | 8 - MOTM | Well I'll be damned, he has actually learnt how to pass the ball. Dany was fantastic in this game and actually looked like the type of player we've all been told that he's capable of becoming. Deserved his goal but really should have made it two just a few minutes later. |
14 - LENELL JOHN-LEWIS | 7 | The game changed when he came on. He looked dangerous from the word go and set up the opening goal. |
15 - BEN WRIGHT | 3 | He did nothing of note, won virtually no headers despite being taller than the defenders. Didn't look dangerous and maybe that's down to his partnership with Gall. Put him with Patulea and they COULD be lethal. |
16 - DANNY HONE | 6 | Defaulted at six due to his late cameo appearance. |
23 - ADRIAN PATULEA | 7 | Was he worth the wait? It appears so. His skill and passion combined is better than any that I've seen at this club and if he can keep this up then Jacko's uncovered a gem. |
