Whilst I run the risk of sounding negative but the only player who is playing well at the minute is Rob Burch. I'm going to single out the goalkeeper for praise after he pulled of yet more splendid saves. Other than the Dagenham game, Burch has easily been our best player so far this season and I feel slightly more secure with him in goal. This defence can't defend to save their lives, so it's a good thing that we have a half-decent keeper between the sticks.
However, whilst we have a goalkeeper that can actually save some shots, we still have a defence that can't defend, a midfield that can't create and strikers that can't score. That is a sure-fire recipe for inevitable failure. For all the talent that we have in midfield, they don't seem able to create anything. Oakes, Frecklington and N'Guessan could wipe the floor with any team in this division but on Saturday they produced precisely sod all.
The one key common occurance during the opening five games is that we have failed to look dangerous in each game. We've been on the attack plenty of times in our opening five games but other than the three goals we've scored, we haven't created a great deal and it's time for a change.
Whether Adrian Patulea is the question is another matter. I have faith in the Romanian that if he is given service then he will perform, but the main question is will he get that service?
Overall, I think the Grimsby game showed us even more that there is still a LOT of work to be done ahead of the remaining 42 League games. Maybe it's a case that it'll all start falling in place once we get our first win, but can we afford to wait that long?
THEIMPS.TK UNOFFICIAL PLAYER RATINGS FOR THE GAME AGAINST WYCOMBE WANDERERS | ||
PLAYER | RATING | COMMENTS |
1 - ROB BURCH | 8 - MOTM | No contest really for the MOTM award for the second game in a row. Made several vital saves when we were one goal down, without him we would have easily lost that game |
2 - PAUL GREEN | 5 | Paul was often caught out of position on the pitch far too often and the majority of the goals we've conceded this season have come from his side of the pitch. |
3 - AARON BROWN | 5 | Is this guy actually a left midfielder? He has looked very dodgy at the back but has put in several decent balls going forward |
4 - JANOS KOVACS | 4 | HOOF! |
6 - FRANK SINCLAIR | 6 | The only one of the four defenders that actually looked capable of doing his job. He was generally in the right position and the ball very rarely got passed him. |
7 - STEFAN OAKES | 4 | He didn't even have close to the impact he had during his opening two games. It was probably down to fitness but there were times when he just didn't look interested. |
8 - LEE FRECKLINGTON | 4 | Scored a penalty but generally didn't do a lot else. |
9 - KEVIN GALL | 2 | Effort is unquestionable, but Dene Cropper looked more dangerous than Kevin Gall. I said it when he arrived and I'll say it now, this player is not a player who is capable of scoring more than 5 goals a season. |
12 - DANY N'GUESSAN | 6 | It was better but not by much. The Frenchman still needs to learn how to pass when he has the ideal opportunity, but at least he appears to starting to try. |
14 - LENELL JOHN-LEWIS | 4 | Hit the bar, did sod-all else. |
15 - BEN WRIGHT | 3 | Had a goal-disallowed but did nothing else. His time as a first team regular will more than likely soon be at an end if he doesn't start producing. |
17 - DAVID GRAHAM | 4 | Not given any time to show what he can do. What's the point of Jackson making him out to be this amazingly talented player is he never plays? |
22 - SAM MULLARKEY | 5 | Won a penalty but didn't really do a lot else. Tried hard but just doesn't appear to be strong enough to hold off defenders. |
