18th : The circus is gone and now Exeter are back
By Nathan Jackson July 21 2008
Exeter City will be hoping to banish the memories of their last season in the Football League. St James' Park was a circus last time they were in the fourth tier of English football, but now Uri, Michael and David have all gone and good times look set to be back. However, can a manager who has never managed in the League be successful?

WHO ARE EXETER CITY?

WHO IS PAUL TISDALE?

WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING?

Exeter City recently won promotion to the Football League following a successful season in the Blue Square Premiership. Playoff winning teams tend to do well in League 2, the only exception to that was Shrewsbury in 2004/5. To date, Shrewsbury are the only side to win the Playoffs to finish below the team that they came up with.

I'll be honest and saw I don't know a lot about Exeter City. The last game of their's that I saw was the 2006/7 Playoff Final. However, reports are quite favourable about their style and they try to adopt an on-the-ground style. That could mean they go one or two ways in League Two. Lincoln City have played that style twice in living memory, both having different results.

Playing football in League Two is a very dangerous game, if you can get it to work then you'll more than likely challenge for promotion, but it fails more often than not. One warning that I will give to Exeter is that just because you can beat some two-bit sides in the non-league who's only idea of getting points is going past a speed camera too fast, it doesn't mean you're necessarily going to beat teams in League Two.

One key to Exeter's season will be Richard Logan. The former Lincoln City striker certainly knows where the back of the net is and has experience at League Two and that will be pivotal towards Exeter's season. However, they have also just added Marcus Stewart to their ranks and this pairing will ultimately be beneficial to Exeter's chances of staying in the League.

They have very little chance of going down due to Dagenham, Accrington and Chester being a bit crap. I don't think Exeter will set the world alight, but they should still be good enough for 18th place.
