Another ex-Imp moves on
By Nathan Jackson

Ciaran Toner has been released from Grimsby Town after joining them from Lincoln three years ago. Toner has been a thorn in City's side since leaving Sincil Bank, scoring two goals that would turn out to be winning goals in the 6 league meetings in that time.

Toner left Sincil Bank under a storm of controversy. He was sacked by the club following an ALLEDGED fight between him and Marcus Richardson on the training ground. It was awful timing as he was one of our most inform players during that time. It is a belief amongst some City fans that we would have won promotion that year had he not left.

Toner quickly joined Grimsby, the side whom Toner scored his first goal for Lincoln, and became a permanent fixture in the Grimsby midfield. He faced Lincoln several times during his stay at Blundell Park, scoring the opener  (and effectively the winning goal) in Grimsby's 3-0 win just after Christmas in 2005, and also the winning penalty during Town's 2-1 win at Sincil Bank last season.
