Reaction to Mark Stallard's 2007/8

Mark Stallard was one of those released by Lincoln City at the end of the season and it was a release that was generally deserved. Unfit and unwilling to put in effort in most of the games has cost him his Lincoln City career, certainly not helped by just 4 goals all season, one of which was an open goal and one was a penalty.

Mark Stallard had a horrible 2007/8 season, not helped by him only scoring 4 goals. One of those goals was into an open net, another was a penalty and one was a lob from 30 yards which you suspect he just simply couldn't be bothered to for. None of them were vital goals as the result would have stayed the same.
The fact he only completed 6 full matches says it all about his level of fitness. His speed completely disappeared since last summer and he had the turning speed of a 90 year old going around a roundabout.
Mark would often be stood on the pitch with virtually no look of interest on his face and this quickly turned many of his fans against him. He rarely ran for the ball, instead expecting it at his feet and making very little effort to get to it otherwise.
This wasn't helped by him alledgedly telling the fans who travelled up to Scunthorpe for a Lincolnshire Senior Cup game to "F... OFF". Stallard hasn't seemed happy at this club since Schofield and Deehan left and he now won't be considered a big loss.
Quite frankly, his release comes as no surprise to me at all and it was probably the most deserved release of all.

He did have a run of games. He played every match under Schofield in 07/08 and had a run of 8 games in a row under Jackson.

He was inexplicably substituted early in the 2nd half of the play-off match against Bristol Rovers (for a player who was released the next day) and then left out for Torpey at the start of the season. I don't think he ever recovered from that, and watching his non-performance at Barnet was sad as he was clearly a shadow of the player who was at times brilliant in 06/07.

I think the decision to release him is correct. I also think Nathan's assessment is a bit on the harsh side.
He got my vote for Player of the Season in 2006/7, but has not lived up to that since then. I think he has been a bit unfortunate with injuries and being the build and type of player he is 'carrying' injuries is much harder.
If (and I accept it's a quite a big 'if') he can get himself fit again there is no reason why he can't still do a decent job at this level.
Last season he and Forrester were best strike partnership we've had at the club since Bell and Hobson.
Frankly I think using the fact he allegedly told some fans to F*** Off is neither here nor there. In many ways it actually shows he might care what they think. I believe some fans think they have somehow paid for the right to abuse players - this is NOT the case and I am always amazed when fans get upset if players react. Oddly enough, they are human too.
If people don't like Stallard (or Kerr, or any other player who is alleged to have done this) then their opinion and judgement is open to question. I couldn't give a rats @#$%& what a player thinks of a small minority of our fans, what is more important is what they contribute to the team. For a full season Stallard contributed excellently.

His contribution in the 06/07 season should not be forgotten. The amount of unseen work he put in then was immense. A shame his form / fitness tailed off this season, but still one of the best strikers I've seen at the Bank.

3. his goals in the demolition of rochdale when we won 7-1
3. curling goal at mansfield this season
there are more im sure but these are just a few.
thanks for the great contribution last season stalls, i'll be surprised if a league club doesnt offer you a contract for a year.
