Reaction to Lee Frecklington's 2007/8
By Nathan Jackson May 12 2008
Lee Frecklington's season was another where he was constantly being linked with moves to other clubs, not really surprising given another decent season for the Imps. Despite an injury towards the end of the season, Freck still managed to get in well over 3000 minutes of football for the Imps during the 2007/8 season.

Let me start off by saying that I think Freck is the best footballer we have by a country mile. I realised this even more when he became injured at Accrington, after that we lacked creativity and went back into the form that we were pretty much in a few months earlier.

Freck scored arguably the most important goal of the 2007/8. His winner against Notts County caused us to win our first game for one day shy of 3 months. If that hadn't have gone in then it would be likely we would have eventually gone down. That's why Freck is valuable to this team, he brings that extra something that none of the other players have.

However, Freck's 2007/8 season was nothing compared to the previous season. That's not to say he didn't play well during the season, but he wasn't generally up to his usual standards during the season. There were moments of brilliance from him, his goal against Rochdale for example.

The moment that showed to me that Freck is different to most other footballers is that he told Peterborough where to shove their offer. Maybe his "sideways move" quote looks a bit silly now that Peterborough have gotten promoted, but it's nice to have a loyal player.

I am resigned to the fact we will probably have Freck at the club for only another year at maximum, but until that point I think that he will bring us many more moments of magic.

Bit of an enigma. He clearly has the ability to play at a much higher level. He can no longer use the 'young and inexperienced' excuse that was trotted out on his behalf too often.

If he is as good as some people think (and as good as he clearly could be) he should be bossing games far more often than he does. This should be HIS season. If he can add some consistency to his game he can go on to much better things. It's still a lot of untapped potential and I hope we can really get the best out of him.

Under Schoey when the team were doing well he was outstanding. I felt when we struggled he did tend to 'hide' a bit. If we get off to a good start he could be the star man next season.

In terms of what he contributes to our creativity, he is still a step or two behind Forrester at the moment.

I think by his standards Freck has had a poor season, but hopefully with no injuries, he will go from strength to strength next year.
One thing I have noticed this season is that Scott Kerr tends to play better when Freck isn't playing. He bosses the midfield and looks to get forward more, anyone else noticed that or is it just me?
