Reaction to Lee Beevers' 2007/8
By Nathan Jackson May 11 2008
Lee Beevers went from being Player of the Season in 2006/7 to being one of the main reasons we conceded 90 goals in 2007/8. His lack of concentration has often caused the opposition to get past him without many problems at all and it only seems like a matter of time before he finds himself out of the team on a more permanent basis.

12 months ago and Lee Beevers was celebrated being named as the Player of the Season and earned many plaudits for his performances. 12 months later and he is now given as one of the main reasons that we conceded so many goals during the 2007/8 season.

His concentration seems to last as long as Oliver Ryan threatening to score a goal, this has cost us so many times during the last season and it seems almost strange that the management haven't noticed that he is the most beaten defender at the club by quite some way.

Don't get me wrong, Lee can be a very decent defender on his day...BUT I would be surprised if he is still considered a first team regular for much longer. His cause wasn't helped in the game at home to Chester City. He was replaced after 20odd minutes by Danny Hone and the youngster put in a brilliant performance to impress many of the fans and show where Lee's weaknesses are.

You make it sound like a colossal plummet from Player of the Year to unreliable centre-back. In my opinion how he won Player of the Year in 2006/7 will forever remain a mystery to me.

Beevers at his best is an excellent League Two defender. However it is a long time since we saw his best and I'm not sure how long we should keep waiting for it.

Doubtless the Beevers Brigade will be after me now...

So far I have the Marriott Mafia and the Beevers Brigade after me......the members of the Hand Hierarchy and the Clarke Casuals won't be happy with me when I get to them.

In my eyes, Beevers is a right-back. He's never cut it consistently as a centre-back for me and as Nathan rightly says he only produces 'on his day'. Unfortunately, he has now been usurped by Paul Green as RB, although I would argue that there is little to choose between them in that position. I agree with Markus though, how he won player of the season last year ahead of Forrester, Frecklington or Stallard is a total mystery. Good squad player for next season.

I agree 79 - never a reliable centre back, although he can have his day. I would play him at right or left back every time.
If he could up his pace a bit it would help. The times he gets turned in a match causes him problems. A committed player though but needs to improve IMHO.
