Phoenix 22-7 Marist

Tom Jenkinson
By Tony
March 13 2007
Roth secured an important win against the team closest to them in the league and moved into fourth place with a game in hand after a hat trick of tries from centre John Saddington.

A closely fought game with both sets of forwards dominating for long periods it was ultimately Roth’s pack that provided the platform for some neat back play and a couple of decent individual tries.

Roth went into half time 10 – 7 up after playing into the wind in the first half through Saddington’s first try and a conversion and penalty from Tom Jenkinson.

The second half began with a sustained period of pressure from the visitors which Roth weathered and then two tries from their in form centre and a conversion secured the win.

Whilst not their best performance of the season by any stretch Roth can be pleased with securing a decent league win.
