| TRANSFER SPECULATION AND VIEWS |
|
The summer transfers are beginning to commence and I am going to talk about the Royals transfer speculations, players I personally would like to see join the club and analyse how possible the transfers are. Leroy Lita has been linked with us after we apparently made a 1 million £ bid for him which was denied by both Bristol City and Royals Chief Executive Nigel Howe. I believe he would be a great signing for now and for the future and the asking price of between 1-1.5 million is fair considering he is young and a 'good prospect'. I believe this to be our main transfer and we should do everything in our power to acquire the young determined striker who netted 30 goals by the end of the season just passed. Heidar Helguson has been linked with the Royals after scoring 20 goals in the Coca Cola Championship and could be available for transfer because his contract is due to expire at the end of next season. I believe that he would be a good signing but Sunderland have just had a £1 million bid rejected so this means we couldn't buy both Lita and Helguson. Helguson has been linked with several clubs. Bobby Zamora was strongly linked with us and it was rumoured he was going to join in the January window but couldn't agree on a wage so didn't move and Forster stayed. West Ham's promotion pretty much rules this out and is my least favourite signing after I witnessed him throw a ball at a boy ball the season before last. Paul McVeigh has been linked with the Royals after Nigel Worthington told the winger/striker (who can play on the left or right flank) that he was available for transfer after having limited opportunities in the first team in the season past. I believe this to be a good signing as he can play on either wing or up front but preferably left wing and can score goals with his record being 32 goals in 172 games. I believe this to be a very possible signing. Kevin Doyle is a highly likely signing which I believe to be good for the club. Little is known about this player but I did a little research and found out that he was Cork City's highest goal scorer with 13 strikes last season as he helped them attain a UEFA Cup place and is an Ireland U21 international. He is about 22 years old and I believe he plays on the wing or up front. This signing excites me. Steve Stone is a possible signing after being released by Portsmouth and had a brilliant season in the Premiership the season before last and although is getting old would provide cover or be first team. Nikos Dabizas would be a good signing on a free transfer but I believe his wage to be a problem. Steve Jones is a favourite of mine and has done brilliantly well for Crewe and can play anywhere in midfield or up front and he has scored a lot of goals at this level. Danny Cullip would be a great signing after falling out with manager Neil Warnock and being loaned out to Watford. Sam Parkin has been looked at by a few clubs and would be a cost effective signing and has scored consistently over the last couple of seasons, a favourite of Sugar's. There are many more players I would like Reading to look at and I have faith in Coppell to take us up next season if he gets the players he wants. I hope you have enjoyed my analysis. Michael Green
