Goals from Scott Murray and Steven Sidwell gave Reading a much needed win in what was Steve Coppell's first game in charge. A crowd of just over 13,000 were there to watch it. Reading got back to winning ways but they did not make it easy for themselves after struggling to overcome a stubben Gillingham side.

The first half was instantly forgetable with Gillingham having the better chances with the best falling to Nottingham Forest target, Marlon King. Coppell must have wondered what the hell was going on as he was watching from the luxury of the executive seating. As the Royals went in half time to a chant of booing from the home fans, Coppell clearly had some thinking to do.

Second half and Reading looked much improved but still looked to be trying too hard infront of the new boss. Though the goal was well set up with a fantastic cross from Nicky Shorey on his supposed bad foot, found Scott Murray at the back post perfectly and he tucked it in. Reading then looked though they could add to there lead but a mistake from Marcus cost Reading dearly when Marlon King had an easy tap in.

Reading then looked to have settled for another poor point but a good one two between Sidwell and Goater was finished off from the 'Ginger Ninja ' and it sealed Reading a much needed win. Finally a smile for all Royals fans...long may they continue!

Man Of The Match: Yet again the ever consistant Steven Sidwell, was easily the best man on the pitch.

Ref Watch: Did a ok job though seemed very keen on booking a Reading player, eventually he was happy when he booked Sidwell.
