Power play escalates as RFU take their balls home

The power struggle ripping apart the domestic game in England has reached a new low as the RFU has taken all of the rugby balls belonging to the Premiership teams and locked them in their storeroom until further notice. The RFU have vowed not to release the balls back to the clubs until they have ‘had a good long think about their behaviour’.

Relations between the RFU and the Premiership clubs over the issue of player release have become increasingly frayed since England’s World Cup victory in 2003. The RFU feel that head coach Andy Robinson is being hindered in his attempt to defend the title of world champions by clubs over playing their stars and not compromising on player release for national squad training.
