June 2005 - In Review!
England Rugby in June - Again an action packed month for us all to enjoy our Rugby. England players on Tour with the Lions in New Zealand, the 'A' Team in Canada and the England 7s finishing off their series for 2004/5.
First up was a statement from the RFU and PRA regarding a rugby injuries audit.
Twickenham today, the partnership of the Rugby Football Union, Premier Rugby Limited and the Professional Rugby Players Association, announced details of the England Rugby Injury and Training Audit, a unique project commissioned in 2001 to address the risk of injury in rugby union. The vision for how the sport plans to learn from and use the findings was then outlined in the group’s Injury Risk Management Plan.
The extensive study includes an analysis of injuries and training practices, covering international and club matches in the 2002-3 and 2003-4 seasons. It defines an injury as something that prevented a player from taking a full part in all training activities and match play for more than 24 hours. Full story here.......England Rugby Injuries
Next up - The England 7s were in town .... England Sevens have won the Emirates Trophy both in 2003 and 2004 prior to this New Zealand took the trophy in 2001 and 2002. Then our Claire tackle a interesting question from one of our posters ....... A couple of weeks ago ali_fish asked us all a corker of a question - where does England's rose come from? And why does the England jersey sport a rose rather than the Lions that the England football and cricket lads wear? As usual debate raged but without conclusion so we called in the experts at the Museum of Rugby at Twickenham and this is the real story... England's Rose -The Story
Next up the Churchill cup - The Churchill Cup is a five year alliance between Rugby Canada, USA Rugby and the English Rugby Football Union. Last year's tournament was staged in two venues in Alberta - Calgary and Edmonton. Due to the fantastic support from the Edmonton public, and the professional facilities offered by the Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton is the sole host this year which is an exciting opportunity for the city. The initial proposal was that for years four and five the tournament would move to the USA but if Edmonton proves a successful host I would hope that the tournament would remain in our city for the next two years. England v Canada Churchill Cup Match Review. A very boring performance from England. Maybe it was because no caps are awarded for this tournament - I don't know but some players I felt missed their opportunity to show Andy Robinson over in New Zealand what they can do Eng A v Canada Review

Apparently there’s some rugby thing going on in New Zealand at the moment, so most people’s attentions are tuned to the Southern hemisphere for their rugby fix. But away from the most hyped Lions tour of all time, there’s some pretty interesting stuff going on north of the equator as well.
The Churchill Cup stems back to the last Lions tour. Whilst the majority of English players went to Australia to attempt a test victory alongside their British and Irish friends, an under-strength England side flew to America to compete in the first ever Churchill Cup. Eng v Argentina Preview
