England Rugby Head Coach - Andy Robinson Resigns

Andy Robinson has agreed a package with the RFU and resigned as England Rugby Head Coach today!

Whilst many would agree Andy was not very good at selecting a team to win, he was a good coach. Andy Robinson played a big part in England's road to glory when winning the Rugby World Cup 2003 but combining coaching and managing are very different things.

At the outset we have been told he asked the RFU for someone to work alongside him to take away the mundane management stuff, the RFU refused. Eventually they employed Rob Andrew as Director of Rugby but that was too little too late. Andy Robinson has carried out the England Head Coach job to the best of his abilities, I am sure when he looks back in a few months time, he will probably think he was living through a nightmare.

Some say he was given a poison chalice, maybe but Sir Clive Woodward said in an interview recently that Andy knew what he was walking into. Sometimes knowing what you are walking into but dismissing it and saying It will be ok I will manage, is fatal.

So it has been fatal for Andy Robinson, the fans must have a bit of heart though and remember the good work and achievements Andy has had prior to this appointment. He was and still is a good coach and nobody can take that away from him.

Some of his decisions over the last three years have driven sane men and women mad. From the outset he should have concentrated on England and the RWC07 defence! Concentrated on the England B team or Saxons - not the Lions and above all he should have been ruthless and blooded young talent sooner and not panic when the young talent got upended like young Mathew Tait in the Wales game.

He needed to be more proactive instead of re-active. However, that is all history and it is very easy to be an armchair critic.

Unofficial England would like to wish him the best of luck and thank him for the good times we have shared and most of all thank him for being part of the coaching team who helped England WIN the Rugby World Cup 2003.

Good Luck Andy Robinson!

Happier Times!
