Stapleford reached 217-7 on this very hot day thanks to a fine innings from the in form Mark Fletcher. After his match winning knock the week before against Belper Meadows, he played another good pressure innings to get Stapleford to a good total.
At 35-2 with Brear (23) and Walker (8) back in the hutch, Fletcher put on 55 with Harchuk (27) and 83 with brother Paul (23). In both partnerships he played the dominant role. He eventually fell to Andy Bonsall (4-37) for 89 in an innings with included
9 fours and a six. Andy Bonsall was the best of the Butterley bowlers as he bowled so effective away swing. He dismissed Brear, Walker, Mark Fletcher and Ian Brackenbury in his 10 over stint.
In reply Butterley got off a a bad start as Probart and Dance fell early to Paul Fletcher, then Andy Bonsall was also bowled for 20 to leave Butterley 47-3. Oldcorn came in and threatened to turn the match as he struck an awesome 52 which included 5 fours and 3 sixes. He dealt some big blows out to Paul Fletcher, fell bowled by the same man which left Butterley 86-4. The introduction of Adam Harchuk (3-17) proved to be a good move by Brear as he claimed 3 quick wickets at Butterley lost 4 wickets for just a single run. At 87-7 it was surely just a formality of wrapping the game up. Richard Hanson (46*) and Chris Paterson (38*) had other ideas as they put on 101 for the 8th wicket and even had a sense of victory at one stage but chose the safety option and batted out for the draw.
