Openers Ian Walker and Andy Brear opened for Stapleford, but Stapleford were soon in trouble in the 4th over as Darren Giffiths who was bowling some great late outswingers, found the gloves of Andy Brear (6) and the catch was duely taken by Gary Bradder behind. 2 overs later off the same bowler, Walker (3) edged to Jamie Deeming at 1st slip who took a fine catch to leave Stapleford reeling at 12-2 with both openers back in the shed. Mark Fletcher and Adam Harchuk were now at the crease looking to get Stapleford out of trouble. They didnt disappoint as both played very well under pressure. Fletcher was first to his fifty hitting 5 fours, then Harchuk followed suit soon after hitting 7 fours and a big six to reach 50. After both reaching 50 with wickets in hand decided it was time to get on with it and both obliged. The pair had taken the score all the way to 177 until Harchuk was stumped by Bradder off the bowling of Spencer for 71 which included 10 fours and a six to end fine stand of 165 for the 3rd wicket. Mark Fletcher and Adam Harchuk had broken the previous club record for the 3rd wicket of 150 which was set between Trev Hessey (85) and Andy Brear (106*) back in 1996 against Shipley Hall. Paul Fletcher came in and was quickly ran out by elder brother Mark for just a single, then straight after Mark Fletcher skied Spencer and was caught by Bradder to leave the field for a well played 78 having hit 7 fours and a six. The end of the innings saw Jim Wright run well in his 19 not out. Cliff Richmond was the last casualty for Stapleford as he gave an easy catch off the bowling of Spencer for 5. Mark Cliff came in for the last ball and he hit two. Staplefords innings came to a close at 210-5. Best bowling for Belper Amateurs came from skipper Spencer (14-0-54-3) and Griffiths (9-2-50-2)
In reply Belper got off to a bad start as Paul Fletcher had Bryant caught behind 3rd ball. Adam Burnham stuck around but was out for just a single, caught behind off Andy Brear. This bought Jamie Deeming and Paul Spencer together and both were playing very defensivly with the losing draw in the forefront of their minds. But as the overs passed, runs started to come and after being in a position of not losing, Stapleford were letting the game slip away as bad bowling and fielding was costing them dear as Deeming and Spencer started to play much more aggressivly. Deeming fell for a fine 70 as he fell to Mark Cliff, giving John Parkinson his 3rd catch of the innings. This brought Griffths to the crease and he was looking to play in a very aggressive manor but was coached well through his innings by his skipper at the other end who told him to be more defensive. Stapleford though had their chance to remove Spencer when he lobbed up a catch which was between Harchuk at Gully and Walker at cover. Both went for the ball, but at the crucial moment, were about to run into each other so both pulled out of the catch. The fact is the catch should have been taken and probably cost Stapleford the match. Spencer went on to club a fantastic unbeaten 86 to win his side the match with 13 balls to spare. Griffiths finished unbeaten with 14. Paul Fletcher (14-4-45-1) was Staplefords best performer with the ball.
Final Result
Belper Amateurs (22) 214-3 (J Deeming 70, Spencer 86*) beat Stapleford Town (6) 210-6 (M Fletcher 78, Harchuk 71, Spencer 3-54) by 7 wickets
