Rest in Peace

ManUtdWeb is deeply saddened to learn of the death of British footballing legend George Best. The Northern Irish international, perhaps the greatest footballer of all time, tragically lost his battle against alcohol at the age of 59 in a West London hospital.

Below is a passage from messageboard regular and season ticket holder Roger, following the passing of George.

He never collected his pension but he'll be remembered as one of the great footballers possibly the best the world has ever seen. As a spotty faced youth growing up in Lancashire whichever team your pals supported, they all wanted to be Georgie Best in the playground. No other footballer captivated a nation like George did.
He was headline news both on and off the pitch and for years was on the front pages as much as the back pages of the newspapers. George raised the profile of the game to new heights. He was adored by girls and woman and admired by boys and men.
He was quite simply the best player the world has ever seen.
As Derek Dougan said way back in 1973 " Johann Cruyff was made on earth George Best was made in heaven. "
RIP
