Ricky Sbragia’s Manchester United reserve side narrowly beat neighbors Oldham Athletic reserves 4-3 in the Senior Cup at Boundary Park yesterday.

A blend of youth team players and proper reserve players represented United in their opening game of the competition.

Twenty-year old English forward Daniel Nardiello opened the scoring on the ninth minute, but Ash Winn leveled the scoring for the Lactics ten minutes later.

Danny Pugh put United 3-1 up just after the interval, but a goal rush from Oldham saw the score turn to 3-3.

Daniel Nardiello, who is on fine form, knocked in the winner with five minutes to go to seal the win for United.

United: Williams; Lynch, Pugh, Bardsley, Tierney; Jones, Byrne, Wood, Eckersley; Timm, Nardiello. Subs: E. Johnson, J. Jowsey, D. Poole, A. Tate, L. Sims

Meanwhile, United U-19’s drew with Bristol City 1-1 last Saturday.
