Rooney stars as awesome United destroy Blackburn

United win 2-0
By Chris, October 5 2008
Manchester United are truly back to their best following a vintage performance on Saturday evening. The Red Devils produced a mouth-watering attacking display to tear Blackburn to shreds in front of the Setanta Sports cameras. Wesley Brown and Wayne Rooney were on target for Sir Alex Ferguson’s rampant side.

Rooney passed a late fitness test ahead of the trip to Ewood Park and chipped in with an assist and a fine goal as United brushed their Lancashire rivals aside.

United's attacking intent, at times, was breathtaking. However, the opening goal came in controversial fashion as Wes Brown nodded home a Rooney cross in front of 7,000 travelling fans. Nemanja Vidic caught Rovers 'keeper Jason Brown with an elbow as the ball flew in and Blackburn's player were incensed that the goal stood.

United's dominance continued after half-time with the advantage doubled on 64 minutes. After a crisp passing move, Cristiano Ronaldo showed Martin Olsson a clean pair of heels down the right flank, cut inside and squared for Rooney who curled a beautiful shot home.

The Reds could have scored more. Rooney nearly sealed a brace with his cheeky lob just missing the target, whilst substitute Carlos Tevez was denied by the woodwork.

This was a tremendous performance from the Champions with Sir Alex Ferguson getting one over old ‘Big Time Charlie' Paul Ince. United shoot up to sixth in the Premier League table and host West Bromwich Albion next weekend.

Full Time - Blackburn Rovers 0-2 Manchester United
Attendance - 27,321

True words Chris. It could have been a much bigger margin Blackburn were never at the races...

Without doubt our best performance so far to date. Berbatov is starting to really gel with the team, his work rate has improved. He was the man who won the ball at left back which started the move which ended in Rooney's goal. And this was Rooney's best performance, he was the Star man for us and my hat goes off to him. Should also note, that our central midfield pairing of Fletcher and Anderson were subperb, they totally dominated the game and in a ground where we have traditionally struggled. The only critiscm is we failed to convert the majority of the cahnces that came our way. It should have been 5-0, but before the game, i would have been happy with a 2-0 win. Good game, Good performances all round from every player. Now lets maintain it and build on it.

Easiest game we've had at Blackburn for a good while.

Shame about the decision though. it just fuels the delusion that the refs are responsible for our success. Their incompetence keeps undermining our victory. We oozed class from every pore and even the blackburn fans didnt really feel hard-done by.
classy team performance, the sharpness is getting there, another bogey ground conquered and another 3 pts.
