Stubborn Juve hold United in final friendly

Clean Sheet
By Chris, August 7 2008
Manchester United completed an unbeaten pre-season campaign with a goalless draw against Juventus at Old Trafford. Almost 70,000 - more than for Ole's testimonial - were at Old Trafford as the Red Devils paraded their league and European trophies prior to kick-off. The game was not a classic - and a resilient Juve backline frustrated the Red Devils for 90 minutes.

Edwin van der Sar kept a clean sheet against his former club - but was largely a pedestrian in United's final pre-season friendly.

John O'Shea, Darren Fletcher and Carlos Tevez all had early chances for the Red Devils.

At the other end, O'Shea scrambled a Del Piero effort off-the-line on twenty minutes - but the tempo off the game soon slowed despite the glamorous opposition.

The second-half was less exciting - though the introduction of Rafael da Silva from the bench excited the masses on the OT terraces.

The game proved another useful work-out for the lads ahead of Sunday's Community Shield. An unbeaten pre-season campaign has been completed - though this glamorous friendly match failed to match its pre-game billing.
