Sir Alex adamant that Ronaldo will stay at United

Staying put?
By Chris, July 18 2008
Sir Alex Ferguson has broke his recent silence on the Cristiano Ronaldo saga by insisting the player will not be leaving Old Trafford this summer. With the fans fiercely disillusioned with the player, and Real Madrid rumoured to be lining up a £68million approach; will this prove a mistake by Fergie?

Sir Alex has revealed that he met the winger in Lisbon last week to discuss his immediate future.

"It went well. We put across our points of view, where we stand and where the player stands," said Ferguson.

"I can say he'll be a Manchester United player next season. He won't be sold."

Whilst we urged all our visitors to cash-in on the attractive 'Ronaldo staying' odds of 6/5; we're a little disappointed by the news.

A spate of outbursts from Ronaldo over the summer have made it quite clear that he wants to join Madrid. He's described a transfer to Los Blancos as a "dream" and a "forward move" and, last week, backed up comments from Sepp Blatter which suggested the player was being treated like a slave.

The player's transfer value will never be higher - so ManUtdWeb sees no harm in selling a player who doesn't want to be at the club for a record-breaking fee.

However, it now looks certain he'll be staying until January, at the very least.

It will be very interesting to see how the player performs next season - and how the fans treat him. The 42-goal Ace was lauded from the terraces last season; but his total lack of respect and regard from the club since the European Cup-triumph in Moscow has annoyed thousands of the club's supporters.

In this respect, has much really changed? He came out with it 2 years ago, but had the world cup incident as an excuse, he's been hinting at it since he first joined.

sorry Hatter you are just making excuses now. This time round he clearly expressed a desire to leave OT for the Bernabau that was never the case in 2006.
He said all sort of stupid things and if it wasn't for his injury resulting in a lay off until October he would still be pushing for a move to Real.

We can speculate all day long about what has been done and said, most of it media bulls.hit. United have made a stand and well done to them seeing this through. Once ronnie returns in October and starts giving 100% for the shirt again, i think this will all soon be forgotten. Those of you that have banged on about he being this & that all summer will soon enough be singing a differnt tune come the end of next season.

If a player wants away why do you think he is going to give us a 100%.

For me if Fergie has enough reasons to want him to stay then that will be good enough for most regardless of the Media spin.

Sir Alex did not comment on all the stuff Ronaldo has "said" - making me ask the question how much did he actually say?

Ronaldo has always wanted to play for Madrid. Whats new? Has that stopped him from giving 100% in previous seasons?

Exactly. Especially this season, look what he has to play for!

And this summer from what he's said, it seems like he's gone round saying what he likes because if he has to come back to OT he thinks 'after a few goals everyone will be happy' again.

If he pulls on the shirt and doesn't give 100% he'll soon be found out.

if he stays and plays like he did last season we'll all be happy.

He doesn't want to be at Old Trafford his latest statements to ESPN should make that clear. Cristiano Ronaldo has again fuelled speculation over his future by saying he could still leave Manchester United. When quizzed by ESPN he said: "What do you want me to say? That I'm going or I'm staying? I don't know about the future, only God knows it. I can't say any more."

This should answer your question Empty

Quote:
'What do you want me to say? That I'm going or I'm staying? I don't know about the future, only God knows it. I can't say any more,' the Portuguese told ESPN.
'Great players are always hounded by great clubs. It's a normal situation. There are other great players who are in the market who are good and who other clubs want.

'I have always been hounded, not only this year. It's not strange for me, to see what happens.'

Madrid are reportedly ready to offer Ronaldo massive wages, while United chief executive David Gill is adamant he will not receive a pay rise should he stay at United.

But Ronaldo, who signed a new deal at Old Trafford 18 months ago, claims any decision on his future will not be based on money.

'I want to be happy regardless of where I play,' he added.

'I can be happy everywhere, if I am with people I like, if I am animated, motivated. Am I motivated to continue at United? I am always motivated.

'I am ambitious and I want to always improve. I don't know the future, but I will be motivated.'

no it doesn't because he still has not clearly stated that he wants to be at OT next season. Real Madrid have not given up on their pursuit of Ronaldo and unless he comes out and clearly states he doesn't want to leave - then this will continue.

Apart from earlier in that ESPN interview he spoke about retaining the prem league and champ league and his great respect for fergusonn.

watch SSN

These people ask where will you play next season, he truely doies'nt know. If United accept a bid he'll happily go, If they don't he's happy to stay. He knows its not in his hands.

wether he stays or goes, he has lost my backing. sure i'll be delighted if he bangs in hat fulls of goals this season... and i'll celebrate every last one of them. but i wont have the love for the man that i had. the guy was a legend for me, and could have gone down in united history as being one of our greatest (over time). all i have to do is look at giggsy, scholesy...... they are united legends. they are honourable men. ronaldo? no way. if he wants to go, let the tw@ go.
