Swans boss cool on United link

Right-hand man?
By Chris, July 17 2008
Roberto Martinez admits that being linked with the vacant assistant manager's position at Old Trafford is a huge complement - but the Spaniard hasn't given much else away. The Swansea City boss, who led the club to the League One title last season, has emerged as one of the favourites to succeed Carlos Querioz and become Sir Alex Ferguson's new No.2.

The media have touted Martinez as one of the favourites to take the job with - along with the likes of Brian McClair, Mike Phelan and Laurent Blanc.

When quizzed about the speculation, Swans boss Martinez admitted it was very flattering and would only suggest that he didn't have time to consider press reports linking him with a swap to Old Trafford.

"It is a huge compliment coming from the best football club in Europe, but it's a compliment for Swansea City." said the former Wigan midfielder.

"There's nothing to be making decisions on, I've got too much work on my hands here at the moment."

Meanwhile, Sir Alex has reiterated that the club are in no rush to appoint a new assistant after Querioz penned a four-year deal with the Portuguese Football Federation.
