Gus on speculation
At the age of just forty, Poyet has already developed a flourishing reputation as an assistant manager.
He worked successfully under Dennis Wise at Swindon Town and Leeds and is now Juande Ramos' deputy at Tottenham.
Some speculation had suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson was keen to appoint the former Chelsea midfielder as his new assistant - but Poyet has been quick to squash such rumours.
He said: "It's nothing; it was a surprise to read it. I want to stay at Spurs; I want to stay with this manager, this group of players and this club because I'm very happy.
"When you are in England and you are lucky enough to be with one of the big teams you are always going to get speculation. It happens, that's football - I've been around long enough to ignore it!"
A host of names have already been linked with the appointment - though our sources suggest Brian McClair is still leading the race for the job. Laurent Blanc, manager of Bordeaux, and Swansea's Roberto Martinez are other names rumoured to be in contention.
