VDS wants just one more year at United

One more season?

Edwin van der Sar has confirmed his retirement from international football following the Netherlands' Euro 2008 exit - and the giant shot stopper will have just one more season at Old Trafford before hanging up his gloves. The 37-year-old bowed out of the international stage as his Dutch side crashed out of the European Championships with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Russia.

A stunning performance from Russia's Andrei Arshavin helped Guus Hiddink's men dump the Dutch out of Euro 2008.

Extra-time goals from Dmitri Torbinski and Arshavin sealed the tie after the ninety minutes ended one goal apiece.

The result brings the curtain down on Van Der Sar's glittering international career. He's made no less than 128 international appearances

"I will have one last season in the Premier League but, yes, my international career is over." said the former Fulham stopper.

"I think we had a great tournament and unfortunately we couldn't produce the level of play that we did in the first two games against Italy and France."

VDS was on top form throughout the tournament - captaining his country during the 3-0 win over Italy and picking up the man of the match award in the 4-1 drubbing of the French. However, the men in orange peaked too early and it's Russia who will do battle with Spain at the semi-final stage.

The 6"5 giant is expected to make his 100th league appearance for United when the new season opens against Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
