United kick-off with Magpie challenge

Bring 'em on!
By Chris, June 22 2008
Sir Alex Ferguson will lock horns with old adversary Kevin Keegan on the opening day of the new Premier League season. The Barcodes will visit Old Trafford for the first match of the campaign - which is followed up with a tricky trip to F.A Cup holders Portsmouth and a home tie with Fulham. The first 'Manchester derby' takes place at Eastlands at the end of November.

Ridiculous and frankly absurd copyright laws are still in place which restrict us from offering supporters a full list of the club's fixtures.

As Jock Stein once said; "Football is nothing without the fans". However, fanzines cannot produce lists of fixtures - the game we pay over the odds to attend - without acquiring a license that costs thousands and thousands of hard-earned pounds. It's a joke.

Anyway - we can, just about, legally give you a brief summary of what the fixtures have thrown up.

The season kicks-off with a home match against the Barcodes, and this is followed up with a trip to Pompey and a home game against Fulham.

The Manchester Derbies are in November and May, whilst we travel to Anfield on September 13rd with the return fixture on March 14th.

United's last home game of the season is on 16th of May at home to Arsenal - with the campaign ending eight days later with an away date at newly-promoted Hull.

Before all that gets going though, we've got a host of pre-season games and the Community Shield clash with Portsmouth. There's also the Uefa Super Cup game against Zenit St.Petersburg to look forward to on August 29th.

Roll on the new season.
