A legend
There's no doubt that Solskjaer would be a hugely popular choice with United's supporters.
Of course, managing the reserve team will probably prove insufficient experience for Solskjaer to succeed Sir Alex- but every United fan wants to the Norwegian superstar remain at the club for the long-term.
The 35-year-old spent over eleven years at Old Trafford as a player - notching up 128 goals in the process. He was a rare breed - a loyal player who was not side-tracked by pay cheques or win bonuses. For that, he is adored by all associated with the club.
Since his retirement, forced upon him through injury, Solskjaer has worked as a club coach and also as an ambassador for the Red Devils. The 2008/2009 campaign will see him step up to Reserve Tam boss - and his ambitions certainly don't stop there.
"I do have ambitions to go into management. I want to stay in the game and I want to stay at this club," he said.
"But it is just about taking one step at a time. I was very good at that as a player and I don't want to jump into a job before I am ready for it.
"I am not really surprised - I thought that maybe the reserve team was somewhere the club would like to put me,
"It is the perfect job for me because I know the kids well and Roy Keane didn't finish that much before me and look at what he is doing at Sunderland."
You can get pretty substantial odds on Solskjaer becoming the next United boss. Betfair currently price it up at 110/1. With Fergie expected to retire within the next three years, Ole may have to wait a little longer to be considered - but it's fantastic to see such a legend still playing an important and active role at the club.
