Trio of clubs line up for Silvestre swoop

Leaving United?

Roma are interested in taking Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre to Italy. The Frenchman, largely out-of-favour at Old Trafford, looks likely to leave the club over the summer and Rome looks the most likely destination for the 30-year-old. However, the Serie A club will face competition from Bordeaux and Fiorentina if they wish to sign their man.

Bordeaux have lined up a loan bid for Silvestre - but club director Marius Tresor has revealed that such a deal could be scuppered as AS Roma show interest in a permanent deal.

He said: "I am afraid the situation with Silvestre has been complicated. I met him recently and he told me he had just been contacted by Roma.

"Both clubs are interested in the player, but there is the risk he'll find a permanent transfer to Roma more attractive than a loan to Bordeaux."

Several news sources are reporting that Fiorentina may also launch a bid for the versatile defender.

Silvestre is widely-tipped to leave Old Trafford over the summer after slipping down the club's pecking order. The player has spent nine years with United but has come through a difficult season hampered by injuries and a lack of first-team opportunities.

Is it time for Silvestre to move on? Have your say on the messageboard.
