United to play Pompey in bizarre Nigeria friendly

Reds v. Pompey again?!

Manchester United have announced a completely pointless friendly against Portsmouth in Nigeria. The two teams will battle it out for the Community Shield in August – but will also lock horns in Africa at some point in July. The match is purely a money-making exercise and will surely not help the Reds in their preparations for the new season.

The Reds and F.A Cup winners Pompey will travel Nigeria for a one-off friendly match.

United will head to Nigeria for the game after completing their tour of South Africa on the 26th of July.

In the past, Sir Alex Ferguson's men have paid the price for gruelling pre-season schedules.

With more friendly matches expected to be announced, I hope this jaunt to Nigeria will not prove disruptive to the club's preparations.

The match will take place in Abuja - but the date is yet to be confirmed.
