The date for the final of the Lancashire Senior Cup is yet to be decided. The Lancashire F.A are in negotiations with Manchester United and Liverpool as they look to set a date for the competition’s final. Last year’s final took place at the end of July – with Blackburn Rovers thrashing rivals Bolton Wanderers at the County Ground, Leyland.

Sponsored by Canterbury of New Zealand, the competition involves twelve teams from the Lancashire region.

The participants are all from the Premier League and Football League - though the bigger clubs tend to field weakened XIs throughout the knock-out tournament.

United reached the final following a 4-0 win over Oldham and a 2-1 win against Bolton. Meanwhile, the Scousers cruised past Wigan Athletic and a full-strength Accrington Stanley side scoring three goals each time.

The two teams will now meet in the final - though a date has yet to be confirmed.

A Lancashire FA spokesman told ManUtdWeb: "We are talking to the two clubs about fixing a date for the game. It will be before the start of the new season."

Last year's final - which saw Blackburn demolish Bolton by six goals to two - took place on July 31st so a similar date can be expected this time around. United's second-string have had a decent season - finishing third in the Premier Reserve League North and winning the Manchester Senior Cup.

It could well be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first game in charge of United's reserve team.
