United will face Scousers in Lancashire Cup final

Bring 'em on!
By Chris, April 29 2008
Manchester United will face arch-rivals Liverpool in the final of the Lancashire Senior Cup. A young and inexperienced Scouse side cruised to a 3-0 win against Accrington Stanley’s first-team at the Crown Ground in front of only 194 fans. The result means United and Liverpool’s second-string sides will battle it out for the trophy.

Stanley will be disappointed that their first-team could not perform better against Liverpool's youngsters - but the early dismissal of Phil Edwards was always going to make it hard for them.

Liverpool made their numerical advantage count as Krisztian Nemeth opened the scoring, with Daniel Pacheco making it two shortly after the half-time interval.

Accrington had the chance to get back into the game with a 70th-minute penalty. Ryan Flynn was dismissed for handling the ball on the line - but Andy Procter missed the penalty. Andras Simon secured the win for Liverpool in the closing stages with the third goal of the game.

United's reserves are looking forward to two finals - in the Lancashire Senior Cup and Manchester Senior Cup. Hopefully, Brian McClair's lads can add yet more silverware to the club's bulging trophy cabinet! Details of both games are yet to be announced.
