Glenn Nayled It

A more inspiring Motors performance unfortunally ended in defeat. Vauxhall stayed third from bottom in the UniBond League, and left Owen Brown to perform a "Houdini" style escape for Vauxhall to have a chance of finishing in that elusive top thirteen spot.

Vauxhall gave two debuts, ex-Liverpool keeper Tim Dittmar drafted in in midweek got the nod over Mike Kinsella. And Steve Porter who started in place of Neal McCann.

Going into this match Vauxhall had never lost to their hosts in the UniBond League, It was also the biggest attendance so far this season at Whetherby Road, 602. Vauxhall wish they still had Greg Blundell who scored four goals past this team in October 2000 as Motors ran out 8-1 winners.

The first decent chance of the match fell to the home team, Robert Pell and Colin Hunter with a nice one-two only for the latter to strike wide of the debutant Tim Dittmar's net.

Glenn Naylor then made it five matches straight with his name on the score sheet, Pell's header came back off the woodwork and Naylor pounced on the loose ball.

After half an hour played Craig Robinson was left to fire wide Motors' best chance after Harrogate's defence failed to clear a corner.

The impressive duo Robbie Lawton and Steve Porter made life difficult at every opportunity with runs at the hosts' defence that missing Neil Aspin. Even though Motors fell further behind after 39 minutes. Pell again headed against the woodwork, and again Glenn Naylor was first to pounce. From Mark Atkins' free-kick.

Vauxhall pulled one back just a minute later, Terry Fearns will go down as the assisst although it was a miss-hit shot that fell into the path of Motors second leading scorer Peter Cumiskey who struck a beautiful chip shot and left Ashley Connor in no-mans land.

Only Connor in the Town goal knows how it wasn't all square at the interval. Fearns, Lawton and Cumiskey all rushed towards the defenceless town goal, but somehow Connor collected.

Half Time: Harrogate Town 2 - 1 Vauxhall Motors

Vauxhall came out the stronger after the 15 minute breather. The first decent chance of the second period fell to McNaughton whose headed effort crashed back off the bar, from an Atkins free kick.

The points were awarded to the North Yorkshire outfit when the final "Naylor" was in the coffin when Glenn Naylor completed his second hat-trick of the campaign. Smith took the ball round Dittmar and pulled it back for the simplest of tap-ins for the striker.

The game stil had a twist in the tale when Terry Fearns scored deep into the four added on minutes, converting Pete Cumiskey's cross. There could have been more of a twist had Lawton's cross just seconds later had found one of three awaiting Vauxhall shirts.
