Good Start Ends In Defeat

Despite Hucknall getting off to an excellent start this season picking up 47 points from just 22 games, they maybe wondering why they didn't apply for the Nationwide Conference next season. They are second in the league just two points behind fellow high-flyers Droylsden.

Vauxhall came out on top and started passing the ball around well and keeping some good possession. The deadlock was soon broken when Wayne McDermott launched a pin-point long pass that Terry Fearns held up well and layed off to Paul Robertson, who produced a great pass that Peter Cumiskey vollyed home from 12 yards.

The Motormen held onto their lead up until the 19th minute when a long ball that was not dealt with by the defence led to Danny Bacon levelling matters as he lobbed Mike Kinsella thanks to a good knock down from Gary Ricketts.

Vauxhall lost Paul Robertson through injury moments later and Carl Macauley was the replacment. Macauley made an immediate impact as he crossed to Terry Fearns whose powerful header was well tipped over by Hucknall's Adam Sollitt.

After the home side were in-front two minutes into the game they were behind on the half hour mark. Jon McCarthy crossed perfectly to Ricketts whose header was well saved by Kinsella, and for all Ricketts' hard work it payed off as he stuck his leg out and somehow helped the ball across the line.

Half Time: Vauxhall Motors 1-1 Hucknall Town

An extremley quiet second half with just one goal to report. It came on 50 minutes when more errors in the defence saw Craig Robinson mis-hit his clearance high up into the air that came down straight into the path of Danny Mayman who made it 3-1 and virtualy game over even though there was still 40 minutes left in the clock at this stage in the game.

Vauxhall created two chances but failed to make them count. Firstly, Robbie Lawton struck a good shot from the edge of the area that ended up on top of the net instead of in the net.

The last chance was when Peter Cumiskey swung his free kick in on goal that produced a good save from Sollitt.

Vauxhall made history when on 70 minutes Aaron Rey became the first ever player to come up through the ranks and play a senior game in the league. He looked lively but the damage was already done and The Motormen suffered another defeat.
