Vauxhall Knocked Out

The fans were made to wait a further 20 minutes as Alfreton arrived late from Derbyshire. £3,000 was the prize money for the winning team, and also money for the trip to Telford United in the next round.

The visitors came out the stronger and started to take control for the first few minutes of the game. They managed to break the deadlock after just seven minutes. Vauxhall centre half Craig Robinson watched his attempted clearance charged down by Mike Godber who was able to keep the ball under control and also find the net as he slotted home past Kinsella.

Their lead lasted 10 minutes when Robbie Lawton was fouled inside the area by Alfreton's Ian Robinson. The ref pointed to the spot and Peter Cumiskey was on hand to equalise from 12 yards striking to Lee Butler's right.

The game remained tight and neither team could really get hold of the ball, so the sides went in level at the interval.

Half Time: Vauxhall Motors 1-1 Alfreton Town

Whatever Owen Brown said in the dressing room at half time it worked. The Motormen attacked straight from the off and started passing well and creating openings. In the 57th minute it was advantage Vauxhall, as Craig Robinson's excellent long ball over the top fell to the on-form Peter Cumiskey who rounded keeper Lee Butler and found the net that put the home side in front.

Twelve minutes later came the turning point. The visitors were rewarded with a penalty when Carl Spellman was accused of hand ball that manager Owen Brown thought hit his player under the arm. However, the penalty was converted by substitue John Knapper as he sent Kinsella the wrong way.

It got to the stage in the game when the fans thought they would be waiting through extra time and possibly penalties to see the outcome of this tie. Alfreton hit a late goal to put themselves in the driving seat when Ian Robinson was allowed room on the right in which to cross, he picked out Godber with his low cross who made no mistake in finding the net.

As expected Motors stormed forward in search of an equaliser and gaps were opening at the back. Alfretom counter attacked in the last minute and wrapped up the game when Mike Goddard hammered home and Vauxhall were out of another cup.

Man of the Match: Peter Cumiskey for giving 100% throughout the night and adding a further two goals to his name this season. Pete has now scored 17 goals this season. Keep it up "Wacker"
